Tips for Visa Interview
Preparing for an F-1 Visa Interview
Application Procedures
- Applicant must be 18 years of
age or a high school graduate.
- Download and print the application by selecting one of the formats below.

- Fill out the application form
completely. Sign the form.
- The person responsible for payment
must also sign the financial
support
statement on the application and send a bank verification
of US $8,000 minimum.
- Send a $50 application fee and
a $100 tuition deposit.
- If you want to live in a campus
dormitory, fill out the Residence
Hall application
and
send it to ELI with a $75 deposit.
- All fees may be paid by one money
order or one cashier's check or by
VISA,
MasterCard, or American Express. No
personal checks, please.
- Mail or fax the completed application to the ELI.
- When the application procedure
is complete, the ELI will send the proper forms
and
instructions for admission to the United States.
Refund Policy
The $50 application fee cannot
be refunded. The $100 deposit will be refunded
under certain conditions. Contact the ELI for
more information.
Sample Bank Letter
The bank verification letter included
here is a “sample letter."
The dated bank verification letter must include:
- the student's name;
- the name of the sponsor (the student can
sponsor himself);
- balance verification of $8,000 or more in
the account (the specific amount
need not be
mentioned);
- signature of bank officer/official stamp
of the bank.
- Remember that it is important that the verification
form be dated.
A dated
business letter from the bank (on official
letterhead) would be acceptable.

- What is
an I-20 document?
The full title of the I-20 document is “Certificate
for Eligibility for
Nonimmigrant
(F-1)
Student Status For Academic and Language
Students.”
- Do I need
an I-20 to study at the ELI?
You need an I-20 if you want to apply for an F-1
Student Visa.
- How can
the ELI help me to obtain the I-20?
First you must complete the application process
to the ELI.
We will send your I-20 when we accept you as a
prospective student.
- How do I
obtain a Student Visa (F-1)?
You must apply for a Student Visa (F-1) at the
U.S. Embassy or Consulate
in your country. You must submit the I-20 document
with your visa application.
- Can I come
to the ELI on a Tourist Visa (B-1, B-2)?
No. U.S. Government regulations do not permit
language programs such as the
ELI
to enroll individuals who hold Tourist Visas
(B-1, B-2).
- Is the F-1 the only visa
that is acceptable for ELI admission?
